The OpenMI standard was developed under the HarmonIT project (2001-2005), funded by the European Commission 5th Framework Programme. The EC LIFE Environment programme further supports the OpenMI Association's efforts to develop, implement, and promote the OpenMI Standard until January 2010. OpenMI-supported research and cooperation prospects
OpenMI compliant and OpenMI-based models support studies and modelling efforts from different environmental disciplines. Below is a list of projects where .NET OpenMI or JAVA OpenMI were used to assist the interoperability between independent systems and/or models:
- AquaStress
- Connecting the HIS to HEC-RAS using OpenMI
- HydroloGIS
- NitroEurope IP
- OpenMI-Life
- Seamless
- Sensor
Relevant standards
The OpenMI standard enables computational models, databases, viewers and other modelling components to be linked together. The interoperability of spatial data sets, systems and services is also promoted through various other projects and research groups:
- Infrastructure for Spatial Information in the EC(INSPIRE)
- The ISO Metadata standard
- The Information Desk Standards Water (in Dutch)
- The Open Geospatial Consortium
